Quella Creator: Interface Features

The user interface of Quella Creator has been designed as a classical Windows MDI. MDI stands for Multiple Document Interface and allows users to manage multiple windows or documents within the same working space.

When working with Quella Creator, the most central and important document is the Data Warehouse. End-users interact and work with Data Warehouse Files through an interface designed and structured around the ETL-concept.

The feature list displayed below is not exhaustive and is only intended to give an understanding of the core functionality available to the users of Quella Creator.

Working Environment

Quella Creator Working Environement

Quella Creator has been designed around the concept of ETL-process. ETL stands for Extraction, Transformation and Loading.

  • Extraction: It refers to the process of pulling out data from one or several compatible or disparate data sources with the purpose of processing this data further.
  •

  • Transformation: It is the process of combining, relating and deriving data from a fixed set of available data. The main purpose is to add value to existing data which in its original form is inappropriate for analysis and reporting purposes.
  •

  • Loading: It is the last stage in the sequence and refers to the process of the creating the actual reports in the form or forms that best suite(s) the users’ needs. The most common reports are OLAP-reports (Multidimensional Reports) and simple lists (Unidimensional Reports).

Following these concepts, Quella Creator’s interface is organised in four tabs. Each of the four tabs corresponds exactly to one stage in an ETL-process. The Data Source Tab corresponds to the Extraction stage, the Data Transformation Tab corresponds to the Transformation stage, the Data Model Tab corresponds to the Loading stage and the Job List Tab corresponds to the Implementation stage.

File Log

Quella Creator File Log

Quella Creator logs every file it opens. The advantage of this is that the user does not have to look for the same files over and over again every time a file is going to be used. This logging is done automatically and cannot be turned off. However, it is possible to delete specific elements in the log or the entire log if necessary. The maximum possible number of entries in the File Log is 200. When this number is reached, the oldest log entries are deleted and replaced by the new entries.

Interface Options

Quella Creator Interface Options

There are two important interface options that can make your work easier when using Quella Creator. The first is the language of the interface and the second is the default location of your files.

Quella Creator provides several languages to choose from so that users can set the language of the graphical interface to the one they feel most comfortable with. The language change is instantaneous and does not require re-starting the application or installing additional files.

Users can also define a default file location. The entered location is used as default when opening, saving or creating new files.
