Quella Cognitus: Chart Report Features

Chart reports are a type of report that presents tabular numerical data using a graphical representation with the aim of increasing data visualisation. Charts are traditionally used to increase the readability of large quantities of data and to better understand the relationships and trends in the data.

Charts are normally read and understood more rapidly than the raw data they represent. For this reason, they are perfect to effectively communicate relationships and trends and as support material for business presentations.

Quella Cognitus supports charts as an additional output from Cube or OLAP-reports. This means that data from OLAP-reports can directly be exported to charts.

Some types of charts are more adequate for presenting a given data set than others. For this reason, Quella Cognitus supports 12 different types of charts that can be fully customised and exported into several formats.

The feature list displayed below is not exhaustive and is only intended to give an understanding of the core functionality available to the users of Quella Cognitus.

Attention Zones

An interesting capability of the chart reports delivered by Quella Cognitus is the possibility to emphasise value ranges with colours according to user-defined criteria. Note, however, that the criteria defined as attention zones in charts apply to all the series.

From the analytical point of view, this functionality helps the user to easily spot important pieces of information as break-even points, over and/or under performance and the like.

Y2-axis

Quella Cognitus Y2-axis

The Y2-axis is a second and optional vertical line in a Cartesian coordinate system. This alternative axis is used to display a different scale or interpretation for the Y-axis based on the same data. This is done by defining a linear relationship between the Y- and the Y2-axis.

The Y2-axis makes it possible for instance to display Sales Revenues using two alternative currencies, NOK in the Y-axis and EURO in the Y2-axis.

3D Effect

The 3D effect is used in conjunction with charts to create the illusion of depth. In this way, the visual appearance of charts can be enhanced by using a 3D presentation. There are four parameters involved in creating 3D-effects: depth, elevation, rotation and shading. Note that depth and either elevation or rotation must be non-zero for a three-dimensional effect to appear.

Comments

Quella Cognitus Comments

Comments are labels that are displayed in front of a chart and they are very useful to highlight important data points or to provide general information about the presented data or the chart itself.

There is no limit to the number of comments a chart can contain. Comments are also fully customisable.

Data Export

Quella Cognitus Data Export

Chart Reports can be exported to different image file formats as for instance Bitmap File (*.bmp), Joint Photographic Experts Group (*.jpeg), Windows Metafile (*.wmf) and Enhanced Metafile (*.emf). In this way, charts can be shared with other users and with other windows applications.
