Implementation Engine

An Implementation Engine is a Database Management System (DBMS) on which a data warehouse can reside. This means that the DBMS chosen as the implementation engine is responsible for hosting all the tables belonging to a solution along with their related transformation logics and data. In addition, the DBMS is in charge of physically executing all the data processing tasks generated and managed by Quella Creator.

The current version of Quella Creator supports the following Implementation Engines:

The choice between these two options as the appropriate implementation engine for a given solution depends on several factors. Some of the most important are the data volume to be processed, the scope of the intended solution and the cost of the alternative DBMS.

Data volume refers to the amount of data that need to be processed and hosted in terms of GB. Scope refers to the magnitude of a solution in terms of the number of intended users, the number of the required data sources, the complexity of the necessary transformations and the up-time required by the organisation. Cost simply refers to the financial cost of the licence fees to be paid for running the chosen DBMS.

Note that it is the responsibility of the user to acquire the adequate licence to access, use and run the chosen Implementation Engine.
